2014 (Cave Creek, Arizona)
This project is used as a pied-à-terre for a physician from out of state. The 1600 sq. ft house was sited in such a way, as to take full advantage of the views of Elephant Mountain. Some of the design challenges were the steep site and the distance from the access road. Part of the drive had to be excavated, white the house sits on eight steel columns, floating over the site and only grounding it at the garage. The cladding is Corten steel which change color throughout the day, and at times seeming to merge with the red rock that surrounds the house.
